‘Your Claim On COVID-19 Vaccines Is Absurd’ – Fayemi Tells Yahaya Bello

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has faulted the claim of his counterpart in Kogi, Yahaya Bello, that COVID-19 vaccines are “meant to kill”.

Bello had in a recent address told the people of the state to reject the COVID19 vaccines, saying that the vaccines are meant to introduce new diseases that will kill many.

“Vaccines are being produced in less than one year of COVID-19. There is no vaccine yet for HIV, malaria, cancer, headache and for several other diseases that are killing us. They want to use the (COVID-19) vaccines to introduce the disease that will kill you and us. God forbid,” Bello had said.

But in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Fayemi urged Bello to tread carefully when commenting on such a topic and watch his utterances moving forward.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum said Bello has a right to his reservations,  but should not be dismissive of a matter of such importance.

Fayemi also described Bello’s comment as an “ill-fated pronouncement”, adding that the NGF totally and categorically dissociated itself from Bello’s claim.

He noted that the forum also announced that a team of experts led by Oyewale Tomori, professor of virology, has been set up to “advise the state governors on the procurement and administration of coronavirus vaccines in the country”.
