Residents have fled their homes after Boko Haram terrorists attacked Babbangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa LGA of Yobe state, Northeastern Nigeria.

Naija News reports that Babbangida is located 50 kilometres away from Dapchi where 110 students of the Government Girls Science Technical College were abducted in February 2018.

The terrorists, it was gathered, engaged soldiers protecting the area in a gun battle on Sunday.

Sources told Sahara Reporters that residents fled their homes and took to the bushes for safety.

“Boko Haram terrorists are currently attacking Yobe town. They are currently attacking Babbangida, headquarters of Tarmuwa local government area in Yobe State. Residents are fleeing,” the source said.

This is coming at a time when the Nigerian Army has claimed more victories in the ongoing fight against insurgency and terrorism in the country.

According to the Army, more Boko Haram terrorists have joined their colleagues in renouncing their bad ways, laid down their arms and surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Military.

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, Abdulwahab Eyitayo, said not less than 8,000 Boko Haram fighters have surrendered and more keep coming in every day.

Eyitayo who also doubles as the Commander Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai observed that as the troops continue the onslaught, more of the terrorists are abandoning their hideouts and surrendering.
