Matawalle Suspends Another Monarch For Sponsoring Bandits

Zamfara Governor Bello Matawalle has suspended the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Muhammad, for his alleged involvement in bandits activities in the kingdom.

Matawalle also ordered the formation of a strong commission to investigate allegations that the suspended king was involved in the escalation of bandits activities in his area.

He also directed another governor of the Zurmi Emirate, Bunun Kanwa, Alhaji Bello Suleiman, to resume his duties immediately.

A statement issued by the acting secretary to the governor, Kabiru Balarabe, said the commission of inquiry into the suspended Emir of Zurmi would consist of eight members, headed by the state deputy governor, Ibrahim Wakkala, and would submit its report within three weeks.

The suspension of the Emir of Zurmi comes about two weeks after allegations of links to bandits led Governor Matawalle to suspend the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Hussaini Umar and the Governor of Nassarawar Mailayi in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of ​​the state, Alhaji Bello Wakkala.

On Friday, reports said gunmen killed at least 93 people in the village of Kadawa in the Zurmi Kingdom.

Residents said the attackers on Thursday night spoke a language other than Nigerian.

They added that the attackers were following people who tried to escape from the village killing them.

Daily Trust reports that five villages in Zurmi Kingdom were attacked by gunmen between Thursday and Friday.
