The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has made some revelations about Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Naija News reports that the former Nigeria Finance Minister was on Monday, February 15 declared the new Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Joining the host of others, Gbajabiamila in a statement made available to newsmen a few hours ago through Lanre Lasisi, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, congratulated Okonjo-Iweala on her new position as the first-ever female and African to head the WTO.
The speaker pointed out that Dr Okonjo-Iweala’s unanimous confirmation by the General Council of the WTO to head the body is a testament to her years of experience in the financial sector both at home and abroad.
He acknowledged that the Nigerian comes to office with a wealth of experience that spans several decades. Gbajabiamila said the two times finance minister’s track record speaks volumes.
He said with her pedigree, he believes she would take the World Trade Organization to enviable heights during her term as the DG.
Gbajabiamila, who was elated by the news of Okonjo-Iweala’s emergence, said “her confirmation has once again proved that Nigeria has experts that can compete favourably both at home and abroad.”
He said the former-World Bank Director comes to the office at the right time. While calling on the new WTO DG to make Nigeria and Africa proud, Gbajabiamila wished her a successful tenure in office.
Meanwhile, former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has debunked the report making rounds that he is planning to join the All Progressives Congress.
Jonathan in a statement on Monday noted that he is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Naija News reports.
