South African Minister, Mthembu Dies Of COVID-19

South Africa politician who served as the Whip of Parliament for the ruling ANC, Jackson Mphikwa Mthembu, has died of COVID-19 disease.

The former parliamentarian and national spokesperson for the African National Congress, ANC, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021, Naija News understands.

President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed the politician’s death in a condolence message released a few hours ago. Naija News understands that Mthembu had gone into self-isolation a few days ago after contracting the dreaded disease.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of loss,” said Ramaphosa in his condolence message.

The President lauded Minister Mthembu’s leadership role, noting that his death means a lot to the country as the deceased was loved and greatly respected.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has been listed among twelve African countries to receive the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine in the next month.

The development was confirmed on Thursday, January 21 by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Kayode Fayemi, Naija News reports.
