The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somali to Nigeria made a special Working Visit to the Leadership and Management of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, in the early hours of today Wednesday, October 20, 2021 to express Goodwill and Satisfaction over the Activities of the Corps in Nigeria, while seeking partnership toward the establishment of a Somalian counterpart of the Organisation.
In his address the Somalian Envoy, Jamal Mohammed Barrow revealed that he directly encountered the structure of the Peace Corps of Nigeria in Kano State, whereby an indelible impression was made in his heart by the performances and excellent conduct of Officers of the Corps in the Kano Command. He disclosed he personally requested for the Meeting because he was so impressed with the Corp in Kano that he initially thought it was an officoal Military Formation in Nigeria. Realizing the Status of the Corps, he became overwhelmed and willing to associate with the Corps at any level.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary further added that his Country needed to replicate the Peace Corps Vision and Structure, which, he believed, would go a very long way in stabilizing the Security Situation in Somalia that is just coming out of a long period of War. He asserted that Nigeria was highly endowed having the Peace Corps in operation
In his response, the Founder and National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Prof Dickson Akoh, commended the Ambassador , and lauded the wisdom of considering the setting up of a similar Organisation as the Peace Corps in Somalia, stressing that the Peace Corps was a Global Concept that should be embraced by all, and expressed his confidence in the passage of the Nigeria Peace Corps Act into Law in the nearest future.
Prof. Akoh further express the willingness of the Peace Corps of Nigeria to enter a Bilateral Relationship with the Envoy and Somalia to foster Peace Building and Youth Development at any point in time
