At least 31 journalists covering the Israeli-Hamas conflict have been killed, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) confirmed on Monday.
Naija News gathered that the CPJ, in a statement on Monday, said its latest count revealed that no fewer than 31 journalists covering the conflicts have been killed.
According to the Committee, out of the 31, 26 were Palestinians, four Israelis and one Lebanese.
Some of the killed journalists include a well-known Palestinian filmmaker, Roshdi Sarraj and a Beirut-based videographer for Reuters, Issam Abdallah, who was killed near the Lebanon border by shelling coming from the direction of Israel.
Giving further details, the CPJ said aside from those who have been killed, eight other journalists have reportedly been injured, while nine others are considered missing or detained.
“Journalists in Gaza face particularly high risks as they try to cover the conflict in the face of an Israeli ground assault… devastating Israeli airstrikes, disrupted communications, and extensive power outages,” the statement submitted.
However, the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) reacted, saying it was investigating the claim.
The IDF said that it could not guarantee the safety of its journalists operating in the Gaza Strip after they had sought assurances that the Israeli strike would not harm their employees.
