Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has declared that enough is enough on just talking about Nigeria’s security challenges without taking appropriate action.
Lalong also added that State Governors can’t be regarded as the chief security officers of their states if they don’t have control of the security apparatus in their respective domains.
He argued that situations where a Governor will issue a directive to security heads but such a person would have to seek clearance again from the federal level before implementing the directive is not acceptable.
The Plateau Governor made the submission on Friday when he appeared on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Good Morning Nigeria programme.
“We have also cried and said the constitution provides that we (the governors) are chief security officers in our state,” he said.
“But there are limits to what we can do, the command that we do. If I am the general officer commanding, I should be the general officer commanding. Not the general officer that will command, and the person you command will say I need to get command from somewhere. All these are very important.”
“We can’t be talking unless we address these issues. Let us be addressing these issues, not only talk-shop, because by the time we continue to talk without coming back to implement, we will still be talking of the same issue,” he added.
In another development, the lawmaker representing Oyo North Senatorial District, Fatai Buhari has submitted that the National Assembly has not seen any reason to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari yet.
This is as he also called on those calling for Buhari’s impeachment to give valid reasons for their agitations.
According to the Senator, impeaching a president takes a definite process, and if not properly handled, can cause further problems in the country.
Senator Buhari made the submission when he paid a Sallah visit to a former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja.
