INEC Chairman Dragged To Court Over Asset Declaration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced dates for the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu who made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja revealed that the Ekiti governorship election will hold on Saturday, 18th June 2022 while that of Osun State will hold on July 16, 2022.

Prof. Yakubu added that the detailed Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the two elections have been uploaded on the Commission’s website and social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission also announced on Wednesday its decision to remove 749 polling units from inappropriate facilities.

The electoral body removed nine polling units from shrines and several others from religious houses, royal palaces, and private properties.

The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

The INEC Chairman, however, did not state the reason for the removal of the polling units.

Nigeria presently has 176, 846 full-fledged polling units from the initial 119, 973 polling units.
