FCCPC, NERC, Others Meet To Strengthen Federal, State Collaboration In Power Sector

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is hosting a high-level Electricity Stakeholder Engagement on Thursday to strengthen collaboration between federal and state regulators to protect consumers in Nigeria’s power sector.

‎The meeting, holding at the FCCPC Headquarters, brings together the leadership of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Chairmen of the various State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs).

‎Discussions are focusing on six key areas: inter-agency collaboration, handling of consumer complaints, consumer education, investigations and enforcement, market surveillance, and information sharing.

‎The engagement comes amid increased regulatory activity by states following the 2023 constitutional amendment that devolves electricity powers. Officials say the forum is addressing rising consumer complaints around estimated billing, metering, and service delivery, while clarifying roles to avoid overlap between FCCPC, NERC, and SERCs.
