In an attack on the Ruwandoruwa community in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, armed bandits claimed the life of a mobile policeman attached to the Maru Police Division.
The assault occurred around 12:30 am on Monday, resulting in the abduction of 15 individuals, including the wife of a local monarch.
The armed assailants, upon storming the community, opened fire indiscriminately, leading to the tragic death of the mobile policeman. The officer was fatally shot in front of the district head’s residence while bravely attempting to defend the house.
Despite the assailants’ unsuccessful attempt to abduct the district head, who was not present, they seized the opportunity to abduct his wife. Currently, there has been no communication from the bandits regarding ransom demands for the abducted individuals.
The Zamfara State Police Command has yet to issue a statement on the incident as of the time of this report. The community remains on edge as authorities assess the situation.
In another development, Naija News reported that Grace Maraya, the wife of the slain Pastor of Second Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Damakasuwa in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who gunmen abducted, has regained her freedom two days after her husband was killed.
According to Punch, Maraya’s release was confirmed by an elder in the church on Monday. He said a ransom of N350,000 was paid to secure her release on Sunday night.
According to him, the kidnappers had earlier demanded N3 million, but after negotiation, they accepted N350,000 before she was released.
Naija News recalls that gunmen in the early hours of last week Friday stormed the clergy’s house in Damakasuwa, killing Rev Amako Maraya, who was the church pastor, and abducting his wife, Grace.
A report has it that the same group of gunmen, three months ago, had made an unsuccessful attempt to kidnap the clergyman’s son. However, with the assistance of the community, their nefarious plan was thwarted, although the Pastor’s son sustained injuries during the incident.
Chinge, giving an update on the cleric’s wife’s release, said, “Mrs Grace was released to us on Sunday night; she is presently taking medication in one of the hospitals.”
