In a statement issued on Friday, June 26, 2026, Awojobi described the incident as heartbreaking and extended his condolences to the families of the victims.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic collapse of the three-storey building at Alakija, Navy Town. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this unfortunate

He prayed for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives and asked God to grant their families the strength to bear the loss.

The PYGN Coordinator also expressed concern for those injured and those believed to be trapped under the debris, urging emergency responders to intensify rescue efforts.

“I respectfully call on all relevant authorities and rescue agencies to deploy every available resource toward locating and rescuing those who may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Every minute counts in situations such as this,” Awojobi stated.

He commended emergency workers and volunteers for their commitment and courage in responding to the disaster.

Awojobi further called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse and urged relevant regulatory authorities to strengthen monitoring and enforcement of building standards to prevent similar tragedies.

“As we mourn with the affected families, it is important to determine the cause of this collapse and ensure accountability where necessary. We must collectively work towards preventing such incidents from recurring,” he added.

He also appealed to residents to cooperate with rescue teams and encouraged members of the public to support the affected families through prayers and humanitarian assistance.

Awojobi reaffirmed PYGN’s solidarity with the victims and their families, assuring them of the organization’s support during this difficult period.
