1. 2027: Only Party-Led Coalition Can Defeat Tinubu – Shekarau
Former Kano State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Ibrahim Shekarau, has stated that only a coalition formed by political parties, not individuals, can unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Naija News reports that Shekarau urged opposition parties to come together and strengthen an existing political platform if they hope to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Speaking to journalists, the former lawmaker clarified his earlier comments, saying they had been misinterpreted.
“For the sake of clarity, I did not say the coalition could not defeat Tinubu in 2027. What I said was that a coalition of ‘individuals’ rather than parties could not,” he stated.
To drive home his point, Shekarau cited the 2011 attempt by the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to form a coalition against then-President Goodluck Jonathan.
2. Keyamo Confirms Suspension Of Planned Strike By Aviation Unions
The Aviation unions in Nigeria have suspended their planned nationwide strike, which was earlier scheduled to commence on Monday, 11th August.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed the development in a statement shared via his 𝕏 account on Sunday.
Naija News reports the unions, made up of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical And Recreational Services Employees (AUCPTRE), disclosed in a statement that the planned strike is being suspended due to positive feedbacks on their greivances after the intervention of some stakeholders.
The unions submitted that the strike has been suspended in good faith to allow for government efforts in resolving the situation.
The notice from the Aviation unions added that the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has assured its staff on efforts to ensure payment of the new remunerations along with their August salaries.
Similarly, the Aviation Minister also confirmed the suspension of the strike.
Keyamo, in a statement via his 𝕏 account, expressed happiness that the unions have suspended the planned strike.
He added that efforts are ongoing to ensure all issues in the aviation sector are addressed and resolved.
3. ‘I Cannot Walk Away’ – Ex-SGF Mustapha Opens Up On ‘Talks With ADC’
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in the immediate-past administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, Boss Mustapha, has denied reports of a plot to adopted the opposition coalition, African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Naija News reports that the former SGF distanced himself from plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement on Sunday.
Mustapha described the reports as “fake news,” insisting he has not engaged in any discussions with members of the opposition or their coalition partners.
Mustapha recalled his position as Deputy National Chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) before the merger that birthed the ruling party.
While claiming to be among founding fathers of the APC, the former SGF said he won’t walk away from the party he helped create.
Admitting that the APC, like any political organisation, has its challenges, Mustapha pointed out that the solution is to work from within rather than defect to another platform.
4. ‘What He Did Is Considered Terrorism’ – NCAA Blasts KWAM 1
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has described the disruption of an aircraft’s take-off as an “act of terrorism”, warning that such conduct carries severe consequences.
Speaking on Arise TV on Sunday, Mike Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, addressed the alleged unruly behaviour of popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM 1), during a recent ValueJet flight.
Achimugu revealed that a probe had been launched to determine how the musician gained access to the restricted point where the incident occurred.
The investigation, he said, would involve FAAN, AVSEC, and NAMA to examine all angles, including whether air traffic control had cleared the pilot to depart.
5. Obasanjo Presidential Library Threatens Legal Action Against EFCC Over Midnight Raid
The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has threatened to sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over Sunday’s midnight raid on its premises.
Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 reportedly stormed the facility at about 2 a.m., arresting 93 youths and seizing 18 vehicles and several mobile devices during the Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party held at the OOPL Rounda fun spot.
A viral video showed guests scrambling for safety as gunshots rang out during the operation.
According to a post on EFCC’s official 𝕏 account, the raid followed “credible intelligence” alleging that the youths in attendance were involved in internet-related crimes.
In a statement issued by the Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, the library described the raid as an “invasion of private property” and a “stark and blatant violation” of the rights of those present.
He claimed the invasion, allegedly led by one ‘Olapade’, caused chaos and panic, leaving some attendees with serious injuries as they tried to escape.
6. NYSC Reveals Why It Withheld Certificate From Viral Corps Member Ushie Rita
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed claims that it withheld the Certificate of National Service (CNS) of a corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye (state code LA/24B/8325), because of alleged critical remarks about the government.
In a statement posted on its official page, the NYSC described the allegation as “entirely unfounded and false in its entirety,” insisting that the decision was taken for valid disciplinary reasons in line with its bye-laws.
According to the NYSC, Ms Ushie is one of 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for various infractions. In her case, her service year was extended by two months after she failed to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance exercise.
