The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, was reportedly involved in an accident on Sunday evening along the Daura-Katsina highway.
Naija News reports that the development has sparked mixed reactions on social media platforms.
The incident reportedly occurred while the Governor was returning from Daura. However, it remains unclear whether he was coming from the residence of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose burial he emotionally attended earlier in the week.
Initial reports of the accident emerged on social media, with a popular user, Mohammed Jammal, also known as White Nigerian, posting on 𝕏 that the Governor had sustained a fracture and was receiving treatment.
“Reports indicate that Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State was involved in a car accident while traveling from Daura to Katsina.
“He sustained a fracture and is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Daura. Thankfully, he has been stabilised,” Jammal wrote.
The social media post triggered a wave of concern among citizens, with many flooding the comment section with prayers and messages of goodwill.
However, clarifying the situation later on Sunday night, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, downplayed the severity of the incident and reassured the public that the Governor was stable.
“Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda was involved in a minor road accident this evening along the Daura–Katsina Road, while carrying out his official duties in service to the people of Katsina State,” the statement read.
“We are pleased to confirm that the Governor is in good health and stable condition, with no serious injuries sustained. As a precautionary measure, the Governor is currently receiving routine medical evaluation at a medical facility, where he is being attended to by qualified medical professionals.”
The press secretary added that Governor Radda was in “high spirits” and thankful for the public’s concern.
“Governor Radda remains in high spirits and expresses his gratitude to Almighty Allah for His protection, as well as Katsina citizens and well-wishers for their prayers and concern,” Mohammed said.
Naija News reports that Governor Radda’s accident comes a week after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose passing has thrown the state into mourning.
The Governor has made several trips to Daura, Buhari’s hometown, since the tragic announcement.
