The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90, just two days after marking his milestone birthday.
Naija News gathered that the revered traditional ruler passed on in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, barely one year after his coronation as the 43rd Olubadan.
Oba Olakulehin, born on July 5, 1935, received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024.
His brief reign followed his ascension to the throne after the demise of his predecessor, Oba (Dr.). Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died at 81 on March 14, 2024.
Before his ascension, Oba Olakulehin was the Balogun Olubadan, a key position in the chieftaincy line of succession to the Olubadan throne.
Naija News understands that the possible replacement could be the former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja.
Recall that the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland had stated in August 2024 that he would become the Olubadan of Ibadan.
Ladoja, the most senior of the High Chiefs and next in line to become Olubadan, stated this while appearing on ‘Agbami Oselu,’ a radio programme on Fresh FM in Ibadan.
The former Governor of Oyo State also declared his intention to become a beaded crown monarch in Ibadanland, as stipulated by his status in the revised Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration.
