1. Tinubu Orders Military To Crush Terrorist Threats
President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies to take decisive action against terrorists, insurgents, bandits and separatists who threaten national unity and peace.
Speaking through Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the grand finale of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day celebration in Kaduna’s Murtala Square, the presidency emphasised full support from the top for all military operations.
To the Army’s officers and soldiers, Tinubu’s message was clear: he said, “The time to rise is now. You have my full authorisation and the trust of the Nigerian people to confront and defeat those who seek to undermine our nation. You are my confidence, my support, and my prayers.”
He described the security threats facing Nigeria as existential, spanning from terror to separatist agitation, and condemned them as indiscriminate enemies that “destroy churches and mosques alike.”
Tinubu assured personnel of sustained federal backing, pledging continued investment in modern weaponry, intelligence systems, and troop welfare.
2. ‘I’m Qualified For It’ – Peter Obi Confirms Plans To Contest For President In 2027
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has stated he will contest for the office of the President in 2027.
Naija News reports that the former Governor of Anambra State made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme.
He said, “I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it.”
When asked whether he was considering becoming the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi said nobody had discussed such a possibility with him.
3. “As If We Have No Memory Of The Past” – Presidency Knocks Atiku Over Vow To Fight Corruption
The presidency has submitted that the public declaration by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to fight corruption is just an attempt to hoodwink Nigerians and get their votes for the 2027 election.
The presidency described Atiku as a well-known corrupt public official who is desperate to win the presidency.
A short statement on Sunday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said that despite the video, people find it difficult to believe that Atiku would make such a vow.
He reminded Atiku that it is wrong to make false vows, and anyone who indulges in such behaviour would incur the wrath of God.
According to the presidential media aide, Nigerians are well aware of Atiku’s past.
4. Nigerian Govt Fines MultiChoice ₦766.2 Million
The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has fined Multichoice ₦766.2 million.
Naija News reports that MultiChoice was fined for violating the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act).
It stated that the NDPC disclosed this in a statement on Sunday signed by its Head of Legal, Enforcement & Regulations, Babatunde Bamigboye.
The Commission stated that the investigation of Multichoice, which commenced in the second quarter of 2024, was triggered by suspected breach of privacy rights of Multichoice subscribers and illegal cross-border transfer of personal data of Nigerians.
“The investigation which commenced in the second quarter of 2024 was triggered by suspected breach of privacy rights of Multichoice subscribers and illegal cross-border transfer of personal data of Nigerians. NDPC found, among others, that Multichoice violated the data privacy rights of subscribers and their friends who are not necessarily subscribers”, the statement said
The Commission also found that Multichoice carries out illegal cross-border transfer of personal data relating to data subjects in Nigeria.
5. ‘Complete Judgment Was Not Read In Open Court’ – Senate Speaks On Natasha’s Resumption
The Nigerian Senate on Sunday stated that it has taken note of the Federal High Court judgment in favour of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, but emphasised that it has yet to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the verdict before taking further steps.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, noted that the upper legislative chamber would act in line with constitutional provisions after thoroughly reviewing the court’s decision.
Adaramodu stated, “The senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria acknowledges that judgment was delivered on July 4th by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the suit instituted by Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
“However, the senate is yet to be served with the certified true copy (CTC) of the said judgment.
“Our legal representatives, who were in attendance at the proceedings, have confirmed that the complete judgment was not read in open court.
“Consequently, we have formally applied for the CTC to enable a thorough review and informed determination of the appropriate legal response, particularly in view of the uncertainty surrounding whether the court made any direct order nullifying the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.”
6. 2027: Former ADC Chairman Reveals Seven Coalition Leaders Pushing To Contest Against Tinubu
Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has stated that supporters are pushing no fewer than seven prominent figures in the coalition movement to contest the 2027 presidential election against President Bola Tinubu.
Naija News recalls that the opposition coalition, led by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Wednesday, adopted the ADC as its platform for the 2027 presidential contest.
In an interview with Punch, Nwosu stated that seven coalition leaders were being tipped to replace Tinubu in 2027, but the ADC would adopt an open selection process.
Nwosu stated this amid growing speculation that some northern power blocs within the coalition movement are already backing the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate for a one-term deal.
According to Nwosu, supporters of Atiku, including former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, ex-governors of Kaduna and Osun states, Nasir El-Rufai and Rauf Aregbesola, as well as those of the Oyo State 2023 ADC governorship candidate, Bamidele Ajadi, were all rooting for their respective leaders to succeed Tinubu.
He explained that as the coalition movement gathers momentum, supporters of the presidential hopefuls were holding engagements, even as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) continue to lose their membership base to the ADC.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria got off to a winning start with an emphatic 3-0 win over Tunisia in their opening game of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Sunday.
The Falcons, who are gunning for a record-extending WAFCON title, opened scoring at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco, through veteran striker, Asisat Oshoala, in the fourth minute of the game following a well-delivered free kick from Rinsola Babajide.
Babajide, who provided the assist for the first goal, turned into the goal scorer as she beat the Tunisian goalkeeper for the second goal in the 45th minute of the first half.
The winger fired past Tunisia goalkeeper, Soulaima Jobrani, in first-half stoppage time to register her first-ever goal at a senior international tournament.
A sublime cross from Ashleigh Plumptre in the 84th minute was finished off by Chinwendu Ihezuo to seal victory for the Super Falcons in their opening Group B clash at the tournament.
