Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Tuesday 20th August 2024.

The PUNCH: Many tankers are currently at various depots in Lagos waiting to load Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, for onward delivery to states across the country as the scarcity of PMS worsens. It was gathered on Monday that though some of the trucks had started loading, the supply of the product by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited was still not enough.


Vanguard: The decision of the Federal Government to increase the contributions of aviation agencies to the Treasury Single Account, TSA, from 40 to 50 per cent has triggered fresh panic among operators. Before now, there had been intense debates among experts over the government’s motive to force cost recovery agencies in the air transport sector into the TSA policy that demanded a 25 per cent deduction from their proceeds that later rose to 40 per cent.


ThisDay: Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) yesterday released its 2023 Audited Financial Statement (AFS), declaring a net profit of N3.297 trillion at the close of the financial year, which ended in December 2023. NNPCL said this amount represented an increase of over N700 billion or 28 per cent compared to the 2022 profit of N2.548 trillion.


Daily Trust: The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has launched investigations into allegations of a multi-million naira procurement fraud, as well as a case of alleged mismanagement of federal government palliatives. Among those expected to be questioned over the alleged scams are Musa Garba Kwankwaso, a nephew of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Governor, Shehu Wada Sagagi.
