The struggle for survival in Zimbabwe has taken a new shape as citizens are now reportedly selling their body parts, specifically the leg toes in exchange for dollars.
Naija News understands that the internet went agog on Tuesday after reports emerged that due to the high cost of living in the Southern African country, the citizens are now pressured to cutting off and surrendering their big toes to a yet to be identified company in exchange for money.
One Innocent Zikky who is said to be a journalist had posted a video on Twitter, showing a citizen of the country claiming to have benefited from the toe selling.
The Zimbabwean could be seen in the viral video, showing off the car he bought after selling his toe. He also displayed his severed toe still healing up in bandages.
Reports claimed that the said company is paying the citizens the sum of $40,000 for the big toe while $25,000 is offered for the middle toe and $10,000 for the tiny toe.
“In Zimbabwe, people have started selling their toes for thousands of dollars. This is due to the high cost of living and the failure of the government to create jobs. The toes are being bought at $40,000 dollars (N16m) While the smaller ones are at $20,000 dollars (N8m),” Zikky reported on Twitter.
Another citizen who also claimed to be a journalist [@Tinoe_Edington] tweeted: “Just watched a video remface ane GD6 rake achikamhina asina chigunwe Harare yashata mmmm.”
