Wike Sacks Health Commissioner, Professor Princewill Chike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has relieved the State Commissioner of Health, Professor Princewill Chike, of his job.

Naija News reports that the governor made this known in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Kevin Ebiri.

According to Ebiri, the commissioner was sacked for unilaterally hosting the preliminary session of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, in Port Harcourt, adding that the Rivers State Government never requested to host the preliminary session of the council.

He added that Chike failed to seek the consent of the Rivers State Government before hosting the session, adding that the event coincided with the commissioning and flagging off projects in the state.

Ebiri disclosed that Governor Wike announced Chike’s sack on Monday when MDCN officials paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House.

He revealed that the governor stated that the action of the commissioner was embarrassing and brought disrepute to the state.

Ebiri said the governor only learnt about the conference through a text message from the commissioner while on a foreign trip soliciting for the provision of logistics without informing the executive council.

“Frankly speaking, I have never seen an embarrassment like this in my life.

“Everybody knows that it is not my nature to bring people and you cannot attend to them or host them. So, whoever has done this will suffer for it,” Wike said.
