Thousands Gathered as the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo (UAES), Imo State Celebrated Academic Excellence, Innovation and a New Era of Growth.
The historic, colourful and unforgettable moment took place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, to mark its maiden Convocation Ceremony, marking a major milestone in the young but rapidly advancing Institution.
The epoch-making event attracted thousands of guests, including Government representatives, parents, guardians, academics, renowned Politicians and Businessmen, with stakeholders and well-wishers, to witness what will undoubtedly remain one of the most significant moments in the history of the University.
Established in 2019, UAES has, within a remarkably short period, continued to demonstrate an impressive commitment to academic excellence, practical learning, innovation, research and technological advancement. The maiden convocation ceremony therefore stood not only as a celebration of the graduating students but also as a testament to the vision, dedication and remarkable progress that have defined the institution since its establishment.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Christopher Eze Chiedozie, expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Imo State for his immense contributions and transformational impact across the state, particularly his unwavering support for the growth and development of UAES, Umuagwo.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the progress being recorded by the institution is a reflection of purposeful leadership, strategic investment and a strong commitment to education, innovation and human capital development. He acknowledged the Governor’s vision in creating and supporting an institution that is already positioning itself as a centre for practical knowledge, agricultural advancement and environmental innovation.
Professor Chiedozie also expressed heartfelt gratitude to parents and guardians who have placed their trust in the university by sending their children and wards to study at UAES. He described their confidence in the institution as a strong source of encouragement and a responsibility that the university does not take for granted.
According to him, the students are not merely being equipped with classroom knowledge but are being exposed to practical experiences, research, innovation and skills capable of preparing them to contribute meaningfully to society and become solution providers in their respective fields.
The Vice-Chancellor further used the occasion to extend an open invitation to investors, corporate organisations, development partners and other relevant stakeholders to collaborate and partner with the university.
He emphasised the enormous opportunities available for partnerships, particularly in the area of agriculture, research, technology and the commercialisation of the university’s innovations. With several agricultural production equipment and machinery inventions emerging from the institution’s practical and research-driven environment, Professor Chiedozie called on investors to join hands with UAES in taking these innovations beyond the university community and making them available for the benefit of society.
He maintained that such strategic partnerships would help strengthen the bridge between research, innovation and industry, while ensuring that locally developed agricultural machinery and technological solutions reach farmers, entrepreneurs, communities and other sectors where they can make meaningful impact.
Representing the Imo State Governor at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Tertiary and Technical Education, Prof. Victor Nwachukwu, delivered the Governor’s message and congratulated the graduating students for their outstanding achievements.
He particularly commended the graduates who distinguished themselves academically and came out with flying colours, describing their success as the reward of hard work, discipline, resilience and determination. He encouraged them to carry the values, knowledge and practical skills acquired from the university into the larger society and become worthy ambassadors of UAES and Imo State.
The Commissioner also applauded the Management, Academic and Non-Academic Staff of the University for their dedication and commitment to the institution’s growth. He recognised their collective efforts in building a university that, despite its relatively young age, has continued to record remarkable achievements and establish a reputation for practical education, innovation and agricultural development.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Imo State Government, he assured the University community that the government would continue to stand by UAES and support its advancement towards greater heights.
He stated that the growth of educational institutions remains central to the development agenda of the state, stressing that continued investment in education, technology, agriculture and innovation is essential to building a productive, self-reliant and prosperous society.
The maiden convocation was more than a ceremony for the award of Degrees and celebration of graduating students. It was a powerful demonstration of what vision, purposeful leadership, institutional commitment and practical education can achieve within a short period.
