The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, better known as Shi’ites, has again demanded the release of its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah Ibrahim.
Shi’ites expressed worries that Sheikh’s wife is at heightened risk of severe illness and possible death considering her underlying medical conditions at this time the nation is battling another phase of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Islamic group feared that Zakzaky and Zeenah may have contracted the dreaded Coronavirus disease.
Shi’ites in a statement signed and released by its President, Media Forum, Ibrahim Musa, said the duo has not been taken to any specialized hospital to receive proper medical attention.
“We all know that COVID-19 requires an immediate response of urgent adherence to medical advice, more so, Zeenah has been denied treatment for acute medical conditions including severe arthritis of the knee for five years now,” the group noted.
“Yet she is still in Kaduna prison at the moment, yet to be hospitalized, and yet to receive proper health care,”
The statement added that “Sheikh Zakzaky himself suffers from many underlying conditions which put him at high risk of developing life-threatening symptoms should he contract the virus.
Naija News understands that Zakzaky and Zeenah would appear in court on Monday 25 January to again answer to charges brought against them by the government of Nasir El-Rufa’i.
