All security agencies in Zamfara State have been mandated to provide an authorization letter to be able to purchase Premium Motor Spirit (Fuel) at petrol stations.
Naija News understands that the new rule was introduced by the newly inaugurated Task Force on petroleum products in the state following reports of alleged excesses and smuggling by some security agents.
The task force warned that henceforth, no security agency would buy petroleum products in jerry cans without a letter from their superior officials.
The order was revealed in a statement made available to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital on Wednesday by the chairman of the Zamfara State Task Force on petroleum products, Barrister Abdirashid Haruna.
According to Haruna, some of the security agents are observed to be taking advantage of their uniforms to be smuggling petroleum products across the state.
He warned that such actions would no longer be tolerated by the Taskforce.
He said residents are struggling to get fuel and other petroleum products for their domestic and legitimate endeavours, but men in uniform are frustrating them.
Haruna assured that his committee would work harder to ensure that petroleum products supplied to Zamfara State were distributed and sold at the agreed price.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has broken his silence and apologized to Nigerians over the fuel scarcity and electricity shortages that have befallen the nation in the past few weeks.
According to the President in a statement on Wednesday, the situation is regrettable but the government is working hard to restore normalcy.
Buhari in a statement on Wednesday that was issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu apologized for the strain caused by the situation on both individuals and businesses.
He assured that in the coming days, the ques are expected to disappear nationwide as the government is working with relevant stakeholders to resolve all issues.
