Real Madrid defensive midfielder, Aurélien Tchouaméni has joined the list of players lamenting over the busy schedule in football.
Tchouaméni who is currently a 23-year-old defensive midfielder said it would be difficult for footballers to retire at age 38 or 39 due to the number of games they have to play.
Over the years, footballers have been lamenting over the number of games they have to play, blaming the busy schedule for the incessant injuries they have to confront.
Naija News reported recently that the captain of the Netherlands and Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk urged Premier League players to speak against the busy schedule of the league.
Earlier today, October 13, Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, posted quotes credited to Tchouaméni in which the France international claimed that footballers now play 70 to 80 games per season.
“We really have to do something about the schedule”, Tchouaméni told NOS as quoted by Romano.
“We play 70-80 games per season… If we want to play until age 38/39, it would be difficult for our body”.
“We have many different competitions, and not all of them are really important”.
Aurélien Tchouaméni joined Real Madrid from French Ligue 1 club Monaco on July 1, 2022, for a transfer fee worth €80 million.
Since then, the Frenchman has played 61 games in all competitions for Real Madrid in which he scored one goal and provided four assists.
So far this season, Tchouaméni has made 11 appearances in all competitions and has managed to provide an assist after nine league games.
He is currently on international duty with France’s national team who have a Euro 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands at 7:45 p.m. later tonight, and against Scotland on Tuesday, October 17.
