Police Confirm Killing Of Former PDP Chairman In Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Silvester Ntefre.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Uyo, the state capital on Tuesday.

The disclosure by Macdon confirms an earlier report by Naija News that Ntefre was killed by suspected kidnappers in Ikot Inyang, Ekparakwa Clan of Oruk Anam Local Government Area at about 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 15.

Ntefre was a former PDP Chairman in the local government area, and served as Sole Administrator in Abak, Etim Ekpo and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas in the state.

Speaking about the incident, the Police spokesperson said “We have received the report and we are working on it.”

He added that a full-scale investigation has been ordered by the State Commissioner of Police, Andrew Aniengheme and the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the area is to head the investigation.

Macdon promised that the perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted.

“As I speak, mechanisms are already in place to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.

“The culprits were chased by the youth of the community and the police but they narrowly escaped.

“I can assure you that with the strategy put in place by the Commissioner of Police, the perpetrators will soon be brought to book.

“Let’s just pray and allow the police to do their job,” he said.

Ntefre who served as Chairman of Akwa Ibom Local Government Service Commission was a Catholic Knight. He had dressed up in readiness to go to church when suspected gunmen allegedly laid ambush for him, a source in the area had earlier told our correspondent.
