Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Adekimi Ojo yesterday urged officers and men of the command deployed for governorship election in Osun State to remain neutral and be guarded against professional misconduct.
The police boss also charged them to maintain high standard of discipline, neutrality and professional conduct through out while discharging their duties.
A statement issued by the police command in Ilorin on Thursday signed by the spokesperson of the state police command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Ojo conveyed to the personnel directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu that police officers and men deployed for election duties must remain apolitical and impartial in the election.
The statement reads: “The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, has charged officers and men of the Command deployed for election security duties in Osun State to maintain the highest standards of discipline, neutrality and professional conduct throughout the exercise.
”While addressing the personnel ahead of deployment, the Commissioner of Police conveyed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that all officers assigned to election duties must remain apolitical and impartial, while discharging their responsibilities strictly in accordance with the law and established rules of engagement.
”CP Ojo Adekimi reminded the personnel that election security is a critical national assignment and warned against any conduct capable of compromising the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force or undermining public confidence in the electoral process, including extortion, fraternization with political actors and unnecessary use of force.
”He further directed the personnel to remain vigilant, maintain effective communication with their respective commanders and ensure the protection of lives and property, preservation of public order and a secure environment for citizens to exercise their franchise without intimidation or interference.
”The Commissioner of Police expressed confidence in the preparedness of the deployed personnel and charged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the Kwara State Police Command throughout the assignment.”
