A group of suspected kidnappers has allegedly murdered a herdsmen leader, Aliu Yunusa, in Ondo State following the abduction of his wife.
Yunusa was en route to his ranch near the Ilu-Abo junction in the Akure South Local Government Area when he was ambushed and killed by his attackers.
According to Vanguard, sources revealed that the kidnappers initially took his wife hostage, but Yunusa managed to confront them and secure her release. Nevertheless, the assailants returned, overpowered him, and ultimately killed him.
The Commander of the state security outfit Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the incident to newsmen, indicating that Yunusa was slain by individuals believed to be fellow Fulani herdsmen who had attempted to steal his cattle.
Adeleye explained: “They had earlier kidnapped his wife, but he fought them off and retrieved her. Unfortunately, they returned, overpowered him, and killed him while attempting to steal his cows.”
He explained further that a distress signal was transmitted to the Amotekun Corps’ Ogbese outpost by other herdsmen who stumbled upon Yunusa’s lifeless body.
When the Amotekun officers reached the location, they discovered Yunusa’s remains bearing numerous machete injuries.
Additionally, it was reported that the assailants had set his motorcycle on fire.
Adeleye confirmed that Amotekun officers are actively searching the forest for the individuals responsible for this act.
