House of Representatives aspirant for Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as Omobarca, on Thursday joined celebrities and residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun to celebrate veteran entertainer Daddy Showkey on the occasion of his birthday and the commemoration of his 50 years on stage.
The celebration, which drew a large crowd to Ajegunle, Lagos, was marked by music, sports, and tributes to the veteran musician whose career has spanned five decades.
In a statement issued after the event, Omobarca described Daddy Showkey as a friend and brother whose contribution to the entertainment industry and the Ajegunle community remains significant.
According to him, the occasion represented not only a birthday celebration but also a recognition of “50 years of entertainment, 50 years of Galala music, and 50 years of using music to inspire, uplift, and give voice to the streets.”
Ajegunle, often regarded as one of Lagos’ most vibrant cultural communities, was filled with excitement as residents gathered to honour the singer who rose from the area to become a nationally celebrated entertainer.
Part of the activities included a novelty football match held at the Nathaniel Idewu Football Pitch, Ajegunle. The match featured several notable entertainers and media personalities, including comedian AY Makun, comedian Akpororo, and radio personality Yaw of Wazobia FM.
The game provided a lively atmosphere as participants entertained spectators with football skills, humour, and friendly rivalry. Akpororo drew loud cheers from the crowd after scoring the equalising goal for his team during the match.
Omobarca said the event reflected the strong sense of unity and community spirit that has continued to define Ajegunle.
He noted that Daddy Showkey’s career remains an example of resilience, consistency, and dedication to his craft, adding that the singer has consistently represented Ajegunle with pride both within Nigeria and internationally.
“For five decades, Daddy Showkey has remained true to his craft and his message. He has represented Ajegunle to the world with authenticity and pride,” Omobarca said.
He added that the celebration was an opportunity for the community to appreciate a legacy built through years of hard work and cultural influence.
The veteran singer, who became famous for pioneering the Galala music movement in the 1990s, is widely regarded as one of the entertainers who brought the sounds and stories of Ajegunle to mainstream Nigerian music.
Organisers of the event announced that the celebrations would continue with a grand “50 Years on Stage” concert scheduled to hold at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The concert is expected to attract entertainers, industry stakeholders, fans, and dignitaries from across the country.
Congratulating the music icon, Omobarca wished Daddy Showkey good health, strength, and many more years of impact and influence in the entertainment industry.
“Happy birthday to my brother and friend, Daddy Showkey. Congratulations on 50 remarkable years on stage. May God continue to bless you, strengthen you, and grant you many more years of impact and influence,” he said.
The celebration ended with renewed calls from residents for continued support for cultural icons from Ajegunle, with many describing Daddy Showkey as one of the community’s greatest ambassadors.
