Ologbondiyan Speaks On PDP NWC Members Sacking Secondus As Party Chairman

Your Govt Has Failed Nigerians - PDP Tells Buhari

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan has denied media reports that the party’s National Working Committee(NWC) wants to remove Prince Uche Secondus as the national chairman before 2023.

He spoke with journalists on Wednesday in Abuja at the end of the day’s NWC meeting.

Naija News recalls a source had earlier claimed that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) are plotting to remove and replace Prince Uche Secondus as the party’s national chairman ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The source says the members do not trust his ability to lead the party to victory in 2023 and are also displeased with the way issues within the party are being handled under his leadership.

They also brought issues of alleged financial mismanagement of party funds against Secondus, adding that the party has not been able to capitalize on the mistakes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to attract more Nigerians to itself.

However, according to the PDP spokesperson, there is no discord between the NWC and the party chairman, adding that the party is focused on returning to victory in 2023.

In his words: “We just came out of a meeting. We had one yesterday and we are going to have another one tomorrow.

“What we are doing is to review our activities. Our discussions and meetings have been very cordial.

“We have no issue in NWC, we are not aware of what is being been put out. The NWC is one united and indivisible body.

“We have a responsibility given to us by members of the party to ensure that we lead the party to victory in 2023, to be sure that we win our offseason elections, and the party is walking in that direction.”

Ologbondiyan also noted that the PDP is working on reconciling all aggrieved members and stakeholders towards repositioning the party ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

He added that the party leadership is monitoring and evaluating steps taken in that regard.

“We have agreed on a set time frame for congresses to be concluded. “In states where we have disagreement among members, we have constituted National Reconciliation Committee to look into those issues, and see how members can be reconciled on the congresses . We are also working on that.”

“So now congresses, and in a matter of weeks, maybe by next week, we will come out with the detail on when we are going to do our zonal congresses,” he said.

On the forthcoming Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 2021, Ologbondiyan said that the party was working to ensure victory.

“We are working to ensure that we set the right parameters, particularly in the areas of our congresses, and the primary that will follow. “Our internal democracy as a party remain very strong. And as such we will do everything necessary to make sure that PDP goes into Anambra election as one indivisible political party,” he said.
