It was another evening to forget at Old Trafford as Manchester City proved to Manchester United that the city of Manchester is now blue.
The treble-winning Manchester City stormed Old Trafford to continue their push for a third successive Premier League title and left with the maximum three points in grand style.
Coach Erik ten Hag who started the Manchester derby with a 4-2-3-1 formation couldn’t respond to the unstoppable attacks of coach Pep Guardiola’s side which was led by Erling Haaland.
United’s goalkeeper, Andra Onana struggled to save United unlike in the Champions League where he saved a spot kick to earn United a slim 1-0 win over Copenhagen. The Cameroonian received a yellow card and conceded three goals which he has no say in.
The opening goal came from the spot after the VAR caught Hojlund needlessly pulling down Rodri. Haaland converted the kick in the 26th minute.
Both sides couldn’t score again in the first half and the action continued in the second half.
While United were trying to get back into the game, Haaland doubled City’s lead after taking advantage of Silva’s left-footed cross and headed home his second goal of the game in the 49th minute.
After the goal, Manchester City took total control as United continued to fight back with the fear of conceding more goals. Their fear became a reality in the 80th minute when Haaland assisted Phil Foden in sealing the victory with a tap-in.
The 3-0 win at Old Trafford, left Manchester City in the third spot with 22 points in 10 games, two points below first-placed Tottenham Hotspur. While Manchester United have dropped to the 8th spot with 15 points in 10 games.
