A family member of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu has accused the federal government of spreading fake news regarding the group’s purported ban in the United Kingdom.
Prince Emmanuel Kanu, a younger brother to the IPOB leader made the allegations while reacting to a statement by the presidency concerning the supposed labelling of IPOB as a terror group by the United Kingdom, UK.
The presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, had praised the UK for its decision to tag the group as a terrorist group while also demanding that the group’s assets be confiscated.
In a statement on Saturday, the British High Commission in Abuja released a statement refuting the report that it had proscribed IPOB.
Speaking to Vanguard, Emmanuel advised the social media handlers of the presidency against purporting fake news.
According to him, it goes to show the mindset of the government towards Biafra.
He noted that the president might not even be aware of the overzealousness of his media aides who churn out press statements without authorization.
Meanwhile, the legal team of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced plans to write the United Kingdom over the alleged designation of the group as a terrorist organisation.
According to the lawyers, the news making the rounds that the group had been proscribed by the UK government was orchestrated by mischief makers and enemies of the South East.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer to the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, stated this in a statement released on Saturday, Naija News reports. Read more
