Government Declares Wednesday As Public Holiday

What Akeredolu Said About Killing In Shasha Market

The Ondo State government has declared Wednesday, February 24 as a work-free day to celebrate the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for a second term in office.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the state Head of Service, Dare Alagbaye.

Naija News recalls Governor Akeredolu who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the October 10 governorship election in the state, and is now billed to be inaugurated for a second term in office.

The inauguration which is scheduled for the International Culture and Event Center, Igbatoro Road, Akure in the state capital will however be a low-key event as confirmed by the chairperson of the inauguration committee and deputy governor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

He noted that this is due to the prevailing economic situation in the state and the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier the Governor had dissolved his cabinet ahead of his February 24 second-term inauguration.

Naija News reports that Akeredolu made the announcement during the valedictory meeting of the State Executive Council meeting.

He commended the members of the State Executive Council for their support for his administration in the last four years.

Akeredolu lauded them for their dedication to duty, stressing that they had worked together as one and the interest of the state had remained paramount throughout their services to the state government.

Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has ordered the immediate reopening of Shasha market after peace returned to the popular market.

The governor gave the order on Tuesday during a meeting with the Shasa Community leaders, held at the Western Hall, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Makinde said following the clash between the Hausa traders and the Yoruba community in the market, the state government thas embarked on peace talks between the warring ethnic groups.
