A Professor of a Lagos State private university, owned by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Mr Johnson Fatokun, has been kidnapped.
Fatokun who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Anchor University was reportedly kidnapped on Monday evening while returning from the north to drop off his two children.
The elite was said to have departed Lagos on Sunday with his two children who were schooling at the Federal University in Jos. He was, however, attacked by the unidentified gunmen in Nasarawa, Naija News learnt.
Confirming the report to newsmen, a source said the gunmen all appeared in police uniform.
“The professor had dropped his son at the Deeper Life High School in the morning. He also went to drop the daughter at a Federal University in Jos,” the source revealed.
He added: “He was returning from Jos to Keffi, Nasarawa State, late in the evening when they encountered the gunmen on the road. The driver, however, maneuvered his way and sped through them. The gunmen started chasing the vehicle and shooting.
“There was another set of kidnappers right in front of them. They succeeded in stopping the vehicle. They beat up the driver, who managed to escape. The professor begged them for mercy because those people were angry. That was how they whisked him away.”
A subsequent report revealed that the assailant had communicated some members of the victim’s church in Nasarawa for his ransom. The development was confirmed to newsmen by an official of the school who pleaded to be anonymous.
Meanwhile, no fewer than eight persons were reportedly killed by armed bandits in a gun duel with residents of Dutsin Gari and Rayau communities of Maru local government area of Zamfara state.
