The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday evening, 5th February 2021, confirmed 1,624 new cases of Coronavirus disease infection in Nigeria.
The new cases of COVID-19 infection were confirmed via a statement on the official Twitter handle of the health agency.
This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 137,654 which includes 111,639 discharged cases and 1,641 deaths.
Below is the breakdown of the latest cases according to states with Lagos State having the highest number of cases followed by Plateau State.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says many Nigerians have no respect for the COVID-19 protocols put in place by the government.
He noted further that this is what is responsible for the unsafe practices many Nigerians indulge in by failing to use nose masks, observe social distancing, and other guidelines, adding that it is also responsible for the rising number of infections on a daily basis.
The Minister, therefore, disclosed that in order to correct some of the wrong conspiracies about COVID-19 and the vaccine, that is why top public officials like the president, the vice president, governors, lawmakers, and frontline health officials would be among the first batch of Nigerians to receive the vaccine.
Mohammed who spoke in Abuja during a parley with some selected journalists also called on public opinion leaders, religious leaders, and influencers to help the government puncture the wrong conspiracy theories about COVID-19 and the vaccine.
He agreed that it is very important for the government to increase its advocacy and enlightenment campaigns so more Nigerians can understand the danger posed by COVID-19 and learn to stay safe.
