The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday disclosed that one million, three hundred ninety thousand, five hundred nineteen Nigerians are eligible to vote in the 2023 general elections.
The Chairman of the electoral body, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this in Abuja at a media conference.
He further stated that 45 percent of total registered voters in the country are invalid.
According to Yakubu, only 1,390,519 Nigerians have valid permanent voters card (PVCs) across the country.
Yakubu said, “This is a challenging development.”
He added that only ten of the eighteen registered political parties have notified INEC of their primaries.
The INEC chairman called on the remaining parties to do the needful and for all the parties to strictly follow the electoral laws and other guidelines.
