Another terrible vandalization and economic sabotage has been reported along the Isiukwuato – Mbalano corridor connecting the ongoing Okigwe Power Sub-Station. This development may likely affect the work plan and time frame of the electricity project in Okigwe Zone.

Despite the tireless efforts of the Legacy Senator, Engr. Patrick Ndubueze and the support and assistance of the infrastructure governor of Imo State Senator Hope Uzodimma, to ensure the timely completion of the Power Project, which will mark a milestone achievement for Ndi Okigwe and return the zone to the national electricity grid after over 20 years of darkness, the repeated incidence of vandalisation has become a major threat to the completion of this historic project.

The recent vandalization of a high tension mast and connecting cables has dealt a terrible blow to the Sub-Station which has reached over 80% completion.

Reports have it that hoodlums dismantled a huge high tension mast and cut into pieces transmission cables worth millions of Naira. Many Sacks of compressed cables and cut bars of iron could be seen littered all over the crime scene, with the decomposing body of a young adult male suspected to be one of the vandals lying nearby.

Speaking on the matter, Senator Patrick Ndubueze, representing Imo North senatorial District (Okigwe Zone) condemned the act in totality, while reassuring that he and the ever supportive Imo State Governor were undeterred by the development and would remain focused to ensure the restoration of electricity to the People of Okigwe zone within reasonable time.

He further revealed that some of the imported equipment and electrical parts needed for the final stages of the work had already arrived the Lagos Port and were being transported to the site of the Sub-Station in Okigwe.

He went on to make a passionate appeal for more vigilance, stating that the project was for the good of all, and would have a hugely beneficial ripple effect on the economic and social life of the people, considering the importance of electricity to almost every aspect of human life.
The Senator, as usual, expressed his appreciation to the Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma whom he said had shown immense love for the people of Okigwe zone and implored them to continue to support his government.

Some arrests have been made and investigations ongoing on this heinous crime against humanity.
