With the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season set to begin this weekend, clubs across the country are making last-minute moves to bolster their squads, bringing in both local and foreign talents.
Ikorodu City confirmed the signing of Liberian international goalkeeper, Derrick Julu from Watanga FC on a two-year deal. The fast-rising NPFL side, fondly called the Oga Boys, unveiled the shot-stopper with excitement.
“We’re excited to sign Liberian national team goalie, Derrick Julu, from 2x Liberian First Division Champions Watanga FC on a two-year deal,” Ikorodu City said in a statement.
Julu now joins the growing list of foreigners in the NPFL and is expected to battle for the club’s number one spot.
Note that Ikorodu City will begin their campaign with a tricky opener against Kwara United.
Elsewhere, champions Remo Stars also dipped into the transfer market to secure the services of Liberian winger Mark Gibson Theo. The skilful forward, who previously played for Rivers United, signed a two-year contract with Daniel Ogunmodede’s men.
The Sky Blue Stars have been busy in the market, having earlier announced the signings of Malian duo Chaka Coulibaly and Adama Goita.
At Plateau United, the Technical Adviser, Oluwasola Adegun, has stressed his commitment to developing young talents while building a united squad.
“We’re investing in young talents, full of optimism, and ready for the season ahead,” Adegun told News Central. “We want to build a really good squad, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. We want to win the trust of the supporters.”
The Peace Boys will open their campaign away to Wikki Tourists in Bauchi.
Katsina United have taken a different approach, recruiting 12 fresh players after a series of successful trials. Club chairman Surajo Umar Dalibi urged the new signings to stay disciplined and committed as they prepare to host Warri Wolves in their opening match.
