APC Governors Visit Buhari Days After Former President Denied Dumping The Party

President Bola Tinubu has sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to the United Kingdom to accompany the body of late President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria.

Naija News earlier reported that Buhari passed away in London at about 4:30 p.m. after battling a prolonged illness.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed deep sorrow over his predecessor’s passing.

Onanuga disclosed that Tinubu personally reached out to the widow of the late leader, Aisha Buhari, to commiserate with her and the rest of the family. He also offered prayers and condolences on behalf of the Nigerian people.

The late President Buhari holds a unique place in Nigeria’s political history. He served as Military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985, and later returned as a democratically elected President, winning elections in 2015 and again in 2019.

As a mark of respect, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-staff nationwide and in all Nigerian foreign missions, beginning immediately.

The statement reads, “President Tinubu has spoken with Mrs Aisha Buhari and offered his deep condolences. He has also ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.”

Further details regarding funeral arrangements and national mourning protocols are expected to be announced in the coming hours.
