The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Saturday said the elites in the country are behind the plan to divide Nigeria.
Lawan stated this while speaking with newsmen in his home town, Gashua in Yobe State.
The lawmaker noted that President Muhammadu Buhari would submit a supplementary budget to the National Assembly to request more funds to tackle insecurity, this month.
He added that lawmakers would ensure that security are restored to states facing security issues in the country.
The Senate President described the agitators as “disgruntled elites” bent on satisfying their self-serving interest to the detriment of the majority of citizens.
“The elite is where the problem is. The elites will tell you, ‘we have to secede’. I believe that we should be fair to the multitude of Nigerians, the ordinary people. What they require is leadership.”
“Nigeria will continue to be one. What we need to emphasize always is equity, justice and fairness to all, for all. The only way is to ensure that everybody feels belonged”
