The president of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Billy Gillis-Harry, has refuted a claim made by its spokesperson, Joseph Obele, that petrol from Dangote Refinery is cheaper than the one from the newly revitalized Port Harcourt Refinery.
Naija News recalls Obele, had submitted that the price of petrol from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is ₦1,045, which makes it ₦75 higher than the ₦970 per litre offered by Dangote refinery.
However, Gillis-Harry has denied such claims, arguing that the NNPCL has not announced any price from its Port Harcourt Refinery.
He clarified that the association’s members purchased PMS according to the previous pricing model and are currently awaiting the revised prices.
The statement read: “The National Headquarters of Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN Abuja would Like to Inform the media and the general public that no new price for PMS has been released by the NNPC port Harcourt refinery.
“Members of PETROAN only bought PMS with the old pricing template awaiting new prices.
“We are excited that the production and loading of refined petroleum products have commenced at the Port Harcourt Refinery and we are expectant that soon the price of PMS will be stated by NNPC to the benefit of Nigerians.”
In a similar development, the NNPCL has clarified that products from the recently revived Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC) are designated exclusively for its retail outlets, contrary to speculations about bulk sales.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, made this disclosure on Wednesday, stating that the refinery has not yet commenced bulk sales nor activated its purchase portal.
