Front line workers in Jigawa State have all received their first doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.
Naija News understands that this was coming following the state governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar‘s directives that all stakeholders in the fight against COVID-19 should be vaccinated in the first round of the vaccines exercise.
Governor Badaru who was vaccinated alongside his Deputy and members of the executive council had said that the COVID-19 vaccine will be administered to the COVID-19 front line workers including healthcare staff, religious leaders, traditional rulers, security personnel and journalists.
Naija News understands that a total of 68,520 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were delivered to Jigawa State to be administered to 35,000 citizens which is only 1% of the state population.
In his remark after the vaccination, Chairman of the Jigawa State correspondent chapel, Comrade Ahmed Abubakar said the COVID-19 vaccine is free and safe.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on Thursday, March 18 reported 135 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria.
Naija News reports that the new cases were reported in a post on the disease control agency’s Twitter handle on Thursday night.
