Troops of the Nigeria Army have frustrated an attempt of bandits to abduct some students of Turkish International Secondary School in Kaduna.
Naija News reports that this was disclosed in a statement by the Army spokesperson, Mohammed Yerima.
This online newspaper reports that the Turkish International school is located at the Rigachikun axis of the state.
According to the Army, the troops of the quick response force of division 1 were alerted to protect the school, following a tip-off of a planned attack by bandits.
Yerima noted that the troops responded to another distress call that bandits had had stormed the Federal School of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Igabi LGA.
He said the troops responded to the call by swiftly moving to protect the school from bandits, who had gained access by breaking through the perimeter fence.
Yerima said the rescued students have been evacuated to a safe place, while the injured are presently receiving medical attention at a military facility.
“The troops swiftly moved to Afaka and decisively engaged the armed bandits. Following the fire fight, troops were able to rescue 180 persons, comprising 132 male students, 40 female students and 8 civilian staff,” he said.
Naija News had reported how gunmen suspected to be bandits kidnapped 30 female students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area of the state on Thursday night.
The bandits gained entrance into the school premises after breaking a portion of the perimeter fence surrounding the school.
Speaking to journalists at the College gate on Friday, state Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan, said the school was attacked around 11:30pm on Thursday.
Aruwan disclosed that apart from those abducted, 180 other students were rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army from 1 Division.
