Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili on Friday alleged that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele handed over the control of the apex bank to President Muhammadu Buhari seven years ago.
The co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls movement also alleged that the monetary policies of the apex bank have been political since the APC government took over power in 2015.
Ezekwesili made this claim while reacting to Emefiele’s decision to contest the 2023 presidential election under the ruling party.
Naija News had earlier reported that Emefiele picked the All Progressives Congress N100m presidential nomination and expression of interest form on Friday.
She further stated that the CBN long-handed its independence to the Villa.
Ezekwesili wrote, “If you did not know all along that Nigeria’s serial wrong and ill-advised Monetary Policies of the last 7 years were political because the @cenbank long-handed its independence to the Villa @NGRPresident @MBuhari, at least now you know. They’ve outed themselves. Finally.”
She called on the CBN governor to resign from office and not destroy the remaining monetary policy reputation of the country.
Ezekwesili added, “The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria @cenbank must now immediately tender his resignation to stop further destroying whatever little remains of the country’s monetary policy reputation. Mr Emefele should leave immediately- tonight- to pursue his ill-fated political career.”
