NNANNA AGU NNANNA, REPORTS
Ndigbo Youth Parliament, NYP, has applauded the Federal Government for taking proactive steps that led to the evacuation of Nigerians, especially youths, from war-torn Ukraine.
NYP said the prompt action by FG shows that “lives of Nigerians still matter”.
This was contained in a statement the Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rikki Nwajiofor, issued through the Chairman of the House Committee on Media, Hon. Ikechukwu Nnochiri, on Friday.
Hon. Nwajiofor described as “very commendable”, the swift response of the federal government on evacuation of Nigerians from Ukraine, amidst the ongoing war between the country and Russia.
While applauding the Nigerian Embassies in Poland and Romania, Hon. Nwajiofor implored the returnees to adjust, persevere and never lose hope.
“I wish to, on behalf of Ndigbo Youth Parliament, applaud the federal government for being proactive in evacuating Nigerians from Ukraine, whose lives were endangered by the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. It is an act worthy of commendation. At least, as at today, no life of any Nigerian has been lost in the ongoing war in Ukraine. It shows that the lives of Nigerians matter a lot.
“I wish to also commend the embassies of Nigeria in Poland and Romania for their prompt actions in rescuing stranded Nigerians from Ukraine. If all the Nigerian embassies and high commissions all over the world can be proactive in this way and place great value on the lives of Nigerians sojourning in diaspora, then the world will further respect us as the giant of Africa.
“I enjoin all the returnees, especially the Youths among them, not to see this unforseen adversity as the end of their dreams and careers. I enjoin you to do your best to adjust and plan for alternatives.
“Your returning back to Nigeria is not the end of the road and as such do not be lured to take to crime.
“When you lose hope, frustration can set in and when frustration sets in then crime becomes an ally. As you do your best to adjust, be assured that this ongoing war in Ukraine will soon be over and you will embrace your careers and your dreams once again.
“As we commiserate with you on the truncation of your daily activities and hustles in Ukraine, we thank God for your safe arrival. Life is the most valuable asset and we are grateful to God that you came back alive”, the statement read.
