An international non-governmental organization, ACTED has been suspended by the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum.
The Governor suspended the organization from carrying out any humanitarian activity for organizing an illegal shooting training for some people at a hotel located off circular road in Maiduguri.
A statement on Saturday by Zulum’s spokesperson, Isa Gusau on the incident added that the Governor has directed a full-scale investigation into the matter while the hotel in question is to remain sealed pending the outcome of investigations.
ACTED, a French NGO was accused of using toy guns and simulators in training exercises at a hotel in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Naija News understands the matter was reported to the police by residents who heard gunshots from the hotel.
“The police found some toy pistols at the hotel while two trainers, both Nigerians, were at the police station with investigations going on,” the statement noted.
“Pending the outcome of police investigation, Governor Zulum has directed sealing of the hotel and suspension of ACTED from any humanitarian activity in Borno State,” it added.
The governor however noted that he “deeply appreciates” the roles of “credible iNGOs which have been providing critical humanitarian interventions” in different parts of Borno where there has been Boko Haram insurgency for a decade and promised the continued support of his administration for their activities.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, and top commanders of Boko Haram have agreed to work together in a jihad following a recent peace pact between the two groups.
This is coming one month after the former leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, blew himself up during a confrontation with ISWAP.
The terrorists in a 13-minute video obtained by PR Nigeria pledged allegiance to each other, while they placed their hands on one another while making friendly comments.
