As the 2023 elections draw closer some governors have revealed those they have anointed as their successor.

While the favored successor might eventually not be the one to take over, being selected gives a certain level of head start for the race ahead.

Below are several governors and those whom they have chosen to pass the mantle to.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has reportedly endorsed Senator Uba Sani (APC, Kaduna Central) as the governorship candidate of the APC for the 2023 election in the state.

Udom Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom state, has unveiled the state commissioner for lands and water resources, Umo Eno, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Udom unveiled his successor on Sunday night, January 30, while meeting with some selected leaders in the state and interested aspirants for the governorship post, including National Assembly members.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has reportedly picked his deputy, Nasir Gawuna, as his preferred successor in 2023.

The governor revealed this during a stakeholders’ meeting presided over by him.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has picked the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Francis Nwifuru, to succeed him in 2023.

Francis Nwaze, the governor’s media aide said his principal expressed hope that the Speaker would consolidate on the “Divine Mandate leadership” in the southeastern state if elected in 2023.
