The Nigeria Youth Workers Association (NYWA), the umbrella body for youth development practitioners, is set to inaugurate its Rivers State Chapter. According to a statement issued by the National President, Sir Ben Duntoye, the inauguration is a testament to Rivers State’s commitment to professionalizing youth development. It is also in line with the resolution of the National Council on Youth Development hold in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Duntoye said the event, scheduled to take place in Port Harcourt, will also feature the presentation of the NYWA Award of Excellence to the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas. This recognition is in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to youth development in the state.
“Under Vice Admiral Ibas’ leadership, Rivers State has implemented numerous youth empowerment programs, promoting positive youth engagement, peace, and security. NYWA commends Admiral Ibas for prioritizing the welfare of youth development practitioners and the profession in the state” the statement read in part.
Duntoye congratulated Ibas on this achievement and encouraged him to continue on this path.
The Nigeria Youth Workers Association (NYWA) was established in 2019 as the national coordinating body for Youth Development Practitioners and Professionals in Nigeria. It aims to improve the status and standard of Youth Work by connecting, strengthening networks, and advocating for the professionalization of youth work, ultimately advancing the lives of young people to achieve their set goals. NYWA is an affiliate of the Commonwealth Alliance of Youth Workers Association (CAYWA).
