The House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency of Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has accepted his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The lawmaker, in a statement on Saturday, said he is ready to depart the party in peace despite not getting a fair hearing on the allegation against him.

He also appealed to the NNPP to allow him to go in peace.

Naija News had earlier reported that the NNPP expelled Jibrin on Saturday.

The Chairman of NNPP in Kano State, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, while briefing journalists, accused Jubrin of engaging in anti-party activities and failing to meet his financial obligations to the party.

Dungurawa said the decision to expel Jubrin followed his repeated media outbursts against the party and its leadership.

He further described Jibrin as a “weak politician” whose electoral success was only made possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP platform, not personal strength.

Reacting to the expulsion, Jibrin said that while he would have loved to remain a member of the NNPP, he has accepted the verdict of the party in good faith and would address necessary issues in due time to set the records straight.

“While I would have loved to stay in the NNPP and continue my service to our people and country despite differences on some issues (which I will address elaborately in due course to avoid people being misled), the party has made and announced a decision. I am therefore obliged to accept the decision of the party in good faith and without grudges.

“But for the respect I have for the party, its members, and leaders, I would have viewed this action as null and void, as it failed to follow due process or come from a factional group of the party and test it in court. I will rather wish the party well and go in peace. I beg the party to allow me also go in peace,” the former NNPP chieftain wrote in the statement issued on Saturday evening.

I Am Ready To Pay

Jibrin, an ally of former NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, stated that he is willing to settle the alleged outstanding dues if the party sends him an invoice.

He urged the NNPP to avoid personal attacks against him.

“I respectfully request that the party send me the invoice, and I will promptly pay. I have always advocated for harmonious relationships in Kano and Nigeria, so I am appealing to NNPP to stay on the part of decorum without personal attacks or throwing abuses and insults as we part ways,” he said.

Next Party

The Kano federal lawmaker disclosed that he would consider all options before him before revealing his next political destination.

He, however, reiterated his stand that he is old enough to take a political stand and stand by it.

“For the purpose of emphasis, I stand by all the statements I made in the interviews.

“I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey. But for those who chose to remain in NNPP, I hold no grudges against them, and I look forward to keeping a peaceful and harmonious relationship with them both at the local, state, and national levels,” the lawmaker said.

Jibrin disclosed that he will “carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home”.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been thrown into a fresh crisis following the expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin, lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Naija News reports that a faction of the party loyal to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced Jibrin’s expulsion, accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities and failing to pay mandatory dues.

Chairman of the faction, Hashim Dungurawa, stated that the decision was final, emphasising that the party would not tolerate indiscipline from any member.

But speaking with Sunday Punch, a rival factional chairman of the party in Kano, Jibrin Doguwa, dismissed Dungurawa’s declaration, describing it as illegal.

Doguwa said, “I am the legitimate chairman of the party. This decision was made without our consent, so it has no effect.”

He also defended Jibrin’s recent controversial television interview, insisting the lawmaker did not act against the NNPP’s interest.

“What Kofa said was not anti-party. Every politician has the right to move from one platform to another. Even President Bola Tinubu changed parties before becoming who he is today,” he argued.

Doguwa accused the Kwankwasiyya faction of overstepping its authority and warned of possible legal consequences.

“If Dungurawa does not stop this illegality, we will meet him in court,” he warned.

The crisis further deepened speculation about Jibrin’s political future, as he recently hinted at a possible defection.

Speaking on Channels TV days earlier, Jibrin had openly left his options on the table.

“Anything can happen. I can leave NNPP, I can stay, and I can also return to APC, PDP, ADC, PRP, or anywhere I want. When I make decisions regarding that, people will know. It’s not surprising I did, and I told you, I am old enough to decide for myself,” he said.
