Former Governor of Zamfara State Abdul Aziz Abubakar Yari and former Senator representing Zamfara Central in the National Assembly, Kabir Marafa are reportedly set to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naija News learned that the planned defection to the opposition PDP follows a meeting between the duo and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Yari and Marafa were seen alighting from a private jet along with Saraki at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja for an urgent PDP caucus meeting at the party’s national headquarters.
It was learned that the three politicians laughed heartedly and chatted easily, as they walked out of the airport to their waiting cars.
Recall that Yari was alleged to have given N50m to the embattle Zamfara State Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau for the just concluded PDP National Congress.
Meanwhile, the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has accused the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) of sponsoring foreign individuals against Nigeria.
The presidency stated that the pro-Biafra group was behind the listing of Nigeria amongst countries that suppress religious freedom.
Recall that the administration of former US President, Donald Trump, had in 2020 placed Nigeria among countries against freedom of religion.
Speaking on Friday at the Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State, the Senior Special Assistant to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, insisted that Nigeria should never have been placed on such a list.
The presidential aide claimed that paid right-wing American lobbyists were funded millions of dollars by IPOB to spread falsehoods and misinformation about the country, hence, Nigeria’s inclusion on the list.
