World Teachers Day: We're Working To Address Education Sector Challenges - Sununu

The Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Tanko, has said the federal government is working to address the challenges affecting the education sector.

He said the government was committed to improving the condition of teachers across the country to ensure qualitative education for the Nigerian child.

Tanko stated this on Saturday while speaking at the 2024 World Teachers Day programme organized by the ministry, with the theme “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education”, in Abuja, on Saturday.

He added that the government is also expanding access to new technologies and resources to ensure that Nigerian teachers can deliver world-class education.

We are working diligently to improve teacher training, professional development, and working conditions across the country. In addition, we are expanding access to new technologies and resources to ensure that Nigerian teachers can deliver world-class education, even in the most remote areas,” he said.

The Minister of State for Education, however, noted that the government would need the collaboration of partners to deliver its plan for the education sector.

“However, this effort requires the support of all stakeholders. We call on our state governments, private sector partners, civil society, and international development partners to join hands with us in this mission. Together, we can create an education system where teachers are not only appreciated but also fully empowered to contribute their expertise in shaping our policies and driving positive change,” he stated.

Tanko promised that the government would continue to prioritize policies that would elevate the teaching profession.

As we move forward, Nigeria will continue to prioritize policies that elevate the teaching profession and ensure that teachers are at the heart of our educational reforms. We recognize the urgency of addressing the challenges in the sector, and we are committed to ensuring that Nigerian teachers have the tools, recognition, and resources they need to succeed,” He added.
