A suspect believed to have abducted a young woman in Zaria, Kaduna State, and subsequently killed and buried her has been apprehended by the mother of the victim.
According to reports, the suspect, simply identified as Aminu Ibrahim, 35, was apprehended after demanding a ransom for the release of the abducted woman, Fatima Adamu, aged 23.
The victim’s mother, Mallama Nana Fatima, was said to have been devasted over the development as she was unable to provide further details regarding the incident.
Explaining the situation to journalists, Hajara Adamu, the victim’s younger sister, said Fatima had travelled to Kaduna with the intention of staying for four days. However, when she did not return as planned, and numerous attempts made to contact her proved abortive.
Naija News learnt that the kidnapper eventually answered one of the calls and informed them that he had abducted Fatima and demanded a ransom of N100,000. The family managed to raise the amount and handed it over to the suspect at a designated location in Wusasa, Zaria.
Hajara further revealed that the suspect had initially promised to release the victim on the same day but failed to do so. After three days, he contacted them again and demanded an additional N100,000.
At this point, the mother and the sister, after selling her plot of land, took the money to the designated meeting point in Wusasa, where she reportedly saw and recognised the suspect after alighting from a commercial motorcycle (a.k.a Okada).
Daily Trust reports that Fatima immediately raised the alarm, which attracted people to the scene and subsequently helped in arresting the suspect and handed him over to the Dan Magaji Divisional Police Station for interrogation.
Our correspondent learnt that the suspect confessed to the crime and took the police to his residence in Limancin Iya, Zaria, where he was suspected to have buried the abducted young woman.
During the preliminary investigation, Ibrahim confessed to having been participating in kidnapping people in the area.
He disclosed that the victim died in their custody, and they buried her in his residence at Limanchin Iya.
The acting police public relations officer, Kaduna State Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said the investigation was ongoing.
